• The keypad accepts some codes but not others. The most common cause is a failing membrane switch on individual keys, especially the ones used most often. On DoorKing 1812 and 1601 units, we see code 2 and code 7 go first because those positions get the most finger pressure over time.
• The intercom buzzes or hums instead of giving a dial tone. This usually points to a failing relay on the intercom board or corrosion at the phone line terminals. In Gardena, where the marine layer hangs over the 405 corridor, terminals corrode faster than you would expect.
• The gate opens, but the call box never rings the house phone. If the keypad works and the phone entry does not, the issue is almost always in the intercom board’s phone line interface or the wiring between the call box and the house.
